Dos and don’ts of Ireland

What we know

The customs border is now in the Irish Sea, as Northern Ireland remains in the EU customs area.

Goods exported to the Republic of Ireland (ROI) from GB will be subject to full customs checks.

Goods exported to Northern Ireland (NI) are not, provided they are not ‘at risk’ of being exported to ROI.

This will be managed by a trusted trader scheme. Goods in free circulation on the island of Ireland will be able to cross the ROI/NI border freely.

What we’ve done

We will continue to supply the island of Ireland directly from T2, and this will be kept under review. We will directly supply both ROI and NI.

This will require additional paperwork such as export documentation which will be undertaken by the LKQ Euro Car Parts team.

We are also considering alternative supply options, for example working with our LKQ sister company in the Netherlands and some direct supply from the EU to supplement this approach.

What you need to consider

If you are importing or exporting goods into ROI, you will be required to make a full customs declaration.

Top tip: You will need to have the right systems and processes in place to deal with the customs procedures. This will include holding a HS code and a Country-of-Origin code for all your goods.
